Unit Conversion Editors
The editorial team maintains the milli-to-micro converter and verifies every conversion factor against the official SI prefix definitions published by BIPM and NIST.
We publish under a collective byline because that is accurate — no single named person reviews every page. We would rather say so than attach an invented expert to work they did not do. Conversion factors do not rest on our authority in any case; they rest on the BIPM and NIST documents cited on every page, which you can check yourself.
What gets checked, by area
The prefix arithmetic is identical across every page on this site. What differs — and what actually causes mistakes — is the context each unit lives in. These are the areas covered and the specific traps reviewed in each.
Electronics and electrical
mA/µA, mV/µV, mF/µF, mH/µH, mΩ/µΩ, mS/µS, mW/µW
Component marking conventions cross-checked against manufacturer datasheet practice — the three-digit picofarad code, inductor saturation ratings, and the dBm reference all behave differently from a plain prefix shift.
Laboratory and life sciences
mL/µL, mg/µg, mmol/µmol, mg/L–µg/L, mL/min–µL/min
Volumes and concentrations checked against the instrument bands they imply, because a pipette's accuracy depends on where in its range you are working. Dosing units are flagged where a prefix slip is clinically significant.
Metrology and mechanical
mm/µm, mN/µN, mPa·s/µPa·s, mrad/µrad
Separated carefully from the imperial lookalikes that share the same documents — the mil is 25.4 µm, and MOA is not a milliradian.
Physical sciences
ms/µs, mJ/µJ, mbar/µbar, mPa/µPa, mT/µT, mHz/µHz, mWb/µWb, mcd/µcd
Reference points stated explicitly where a unit is defined against one — 0 dB SPL is 20 µPa, 0 dBm is 1 mW — so the logarithmic quantities are not converted as if they were linear.
Radiation and dosimetry
mSv/µSv, mGy/µGy, mrem/µrem
Absorbed dose, equivalent dose, and the rem-family units kept distinct. The 100:1 rem-to-sievert factor and the difference between dose and dose rate are called out on every page in this group.
How a page gets made
- Define the factor. Every unit pair starts from the SI Brochure definition, not from another converter. The prefix values are definitional, so this step either matches the standard exactly or the pair does not ship.
- Generate the arithmetic. Conversion tables and worked examples are produced programmatically from that definition using exponent-shift arithmetic, so no number on the page has been retyped by hand.
- Write the domain context. A person writes what the unit is actually used for, which instrument produces it, and the mistake practitioners make with it. This is the part a template cannot generate and the part most converter sites omit.
- Check the traps. Each page is reviewed specifically for the failure modes in its field: unit lookalikes, logarithmic quantities, amount-versus-concentration, dose-versus-dose-rate, and force-versus-mass.
- Correct in the open. Reported errors are fixed on the page rather than by removing it. See the correction policy in our editorial guidelines.
