Understanding microrems and millirems
A microrem (µrem) is 10⁻⁶ of the base unit (rem) and a millirem (mrem) is 10⁻³. They sit three powers of ten apart, so going from µrem to mrem means dividing by exactly 1,000 — move the decimal point three places to the left.
Microrems show up on older survey instruments and legacy dosimetry records, typically as µrem/h. Modern reports have largely moved to µSv/h, so µrem values usually need converting twice: prefix first, then rem to sievert.
