A microsievert (µSv) is 10⁻⁶ of the base unit (sievert) and a millisievert (mSv) is 10⁻³. They sit three powers of ten apart, so going from µSv to mSv means dividing by exactly 1,000 — move the decimal point three places to the left.
Microsieverts are the unit of dose rate and small exposures: a chest X-ray is around 20 µSv, a transatlantic flight roughly 30–60 µSv, and survey meters read out in µSv/h. Environmental monitoring networks publish in µSv/h for the same reason.
